Electromagnetic brakes use a single plate friction surface to engage the input and output members of the brake. They are the most common type of electromechanical brakes. Torque is independent of slip speed. It is also directly proportional to coil current, making response time extremely quick. When current / voltage is removed from the brake, the disk is free to turn, and no relative force is transmitted between either member; therefore the only torque seen between the input and the output is bearing drag. |
